- Collaboration sparks strong controversy
- Apologies reignite public debate
The collaboration between Peso Pluma and Kanye West on the track “LAST BREATH” has triggered a wave of reactions following the release of the album Bully.
The album, released on March 28, marks a new phase for the American rapper after months of public controversy.
The Mexican corridos tumbados singer appears on one of the project’s songs, blending Spanish verses with West’s sonic proposal.
The union of both artists surprised not only musically but also because of the context in which it occurs.
Cultural fusion in “LAST BREATH”

The track combines English and Spanish, incorporating elements of regional Mexican music into a contemporary hip hop production.
The song also includes a salsa sample featuring the voice of Latin jazz musician Poncho Sánchez, adding another layer of Latin identity.

In the promotional video, a child is seen facing a group of wrestlers with a “Chipotle Chillón,” a direct reference to the universe of Roberto Gómez Bolaños.
Additionally, West included nods to iconic Mexican wrestling figures such as El Santo, Blue Panther, and Rayo de Jalisco.
Mexican culture as the narrative axis
The release of Bully was accompanied by a listening party inspired by Mexican wrestling.
The setting made clear the rapper’s intention to place Mexican aesthetics and symbols at the center of the project’s visual narrative.
The presence of Peso Pluma reinforces this cultural approach, consolidating Latin influence within a globally reaching album.
The move has been interpreted by some as artistic recognition and by others as a calculated strategy.
Kanye West’s apologies shaped the comeback
The album’s release comes after Kanye West published an open letter offering apologies for antisemitic and racist comments.
In the message, the artist attributed his behavior to a brain injury resulting from a car accident that occurred 25 years ago.
“It was not properly diagnosed until 2023. Medical neglect caused serious damage to my mental health and led to my diagnosis of bipolar disorder type 1,” he said.
Following the statement, criticism emerged suggesting that the apology could be part of the album’s promotion.

“This is not about reviving my commercial success”
Kanye West denied that his remorse was tied to commercial interests and defended the sincerity of his message.
“This is not about reviving my commercial success. This is because these feelings of remorse were very heavy in my heart and in my spirit,” he said.
The rapper added: “I owe a huge apology once again for everything I said that hurt the Jewish and Black communities in particular.”
“It all went too far. I look at the wreckage of my episode and realize this is not who I am,” he stated.

An album under scrutiny
Bully includes 18 tracks and collaborations with artists such as Peso Pluma, Don Toliver, and CeeLo Green.
Bianca Censori, West’s partner, is listed as the project’s creative director, reinforcing the aesthetic dimension of the release.
While some celebrate the collaboration for its cultural fusion, others question the timing of his career relaunch.
Between musical innovation and public controversy, the Peso Pluma Kanye West collaboration once again places the rapper at the center of debate.
